Wow, you’re an ass. I bet I could update a dual monitor setup with different resolutions, refresh rates and positions with nvidia-settings faster than you can editing xorg.conf in vim. My point is that people should use the best tool for the job instead of stroking their superiority complex to prove a point.
slackware has been my daily driver since the late 90s. It still boots to CLI by default. I’m more than comfortable in a terminal emulator. I’m also fine with clicking on stuff. I don’t use portainer, but there’s nothing wrong with people who do.
Beautifully said. I can’t say I’ve come across too many GUI purists, but I’ve definitely been shamed by terminal absolutists who are fine with turning a 1 second process into a 10 second one. There’s a time and place for both.

What about neither and tailscale (free) on all your devices? Or are you often phoning home on outside devices?
I personally bought a domain name (namecheap) for my vps. Then I set up ddclient on my home pc to fetch my external IP every so often and update namecheap. But I didn’t feel it was secure enough. Tailscale is easier, and i feel like it adds a layer of security.
I’m in over my head a little bit. I’ve got an old desktop converted to a server running proxmox. But I can’t ssh into it or access the web interface. It’s obnoxious.
I use it with real debrid and a vpn. I have it on a few android TV devices. I need the ease of use for my luddite wife and 5 year old.
I never considered the re-seeding issue until now. Do the debrid servers not re-seed?
I’m working on a homelab and will eventually try to set up jellyfin, but this is a work in progress.
Everything has some sort of top:
Slacktop, craptop, proxtop, oldtop, wifetop, and batocera (because I keep forgetting to ssh in and change it).
I’d rather go back to a free and wide open but slow web compared to the corporate big brother kernel level anti-cheat world we live in today.
Tivimate is a perfect iptv app. Just spring for the lifetime license. It’s worth it.
Now you tell me
Yeah proton!
Soulseek if you don’t mind data hoarding.
I have yt premium for the same reason. Toddlers have little patience for ads on their Kindle fire, and they get upset when they click one to buy a luxury watch and can’t figure out how to get back to cocomelon.
I actually like the service and feel it’s fairly priced. So I don’t mind paying for it. I stream yt music all day at work.
It’s a direct p2p connection to a single user for downloads. It’s not swarm style like bittorrent. It’s also a great resource for really rare / out of print stuff.
I used it without a vpn for years and never got a single nastygram from my ISP. I think I started with a beta release back around 2000 because I used to be cool like that.
Your face is out of date!
Holy shitballs, this is amazing.
I have att fiber here on the nw side and it’s pretty damn sweet. 1gbps up AND down. I just have to keep dodging bullets, tripping over dead bodies and putting up with a bunch of snowflake libs to have it.
ETA the /s that I thought would be obvious
Agreed, handbrake is what you want.
Yeah, and he’s got plenty of room to let his logs get completely out of control! My home instance has trouble with that sometimes.
You delicious bastard! Thanks for the rook tip.
