First gen product problems. I’m on my third deck and second pair of index controllers despite light usage. Stuff will get better over time.

We only started pirating after Amazon refused to let us play movies we paid for because our hardware was too old for their DRM. It was a 2014 PC made of recycled parts. At the time, it was less than 10 years old. We pirated the same movie and realized it was easier to find, higher quality, and surprise, surprise, capable of playing on a PC we kept out of the landfill.

When I see anti piracy measures that punish people that don’t pirate, such as massive performance hits or privacy violating features, it makes me want to pirate more.

Subaru offer a certain set of keys for it iirc. Their software is absolute garbage though. Either get an older model or one with physical AC controls.

Yeah, mine has one and it runs, but infrequently and at such a slow RPM it does very little. Shucking it was the only thing that seemed to help!

They should have gone with one of these thicker 30mm (thick) fans. They move a lot more air than even a standard PC fan, but do it quietly.

Though one has to wonder why it needs cooling at all. I’ve never had an actively cooled network device before, and most of my equipment hasn’t even gotten more than marginally warm due to excellent venting.

The Xbox controller(s) won’t pair, they essentially have to be added each time or wait 5-10 minutes. The switch controller was worse, disconnecting about every 10 minutes.

Sometimes, the Xbox controllers would duplicate their movements or even switch from p1 to p3, but perhaps that was the game. Both are Xbox one and switch pro controllers, but these are what…6, maybe 7 years old at most?

They usually have worked wired, so I think Bluetooth is just a shitty standard in general. But there’s some weird quirks that even windows doesn’t have. Just a bummer when I assume everything will work without cables and then it devolves into lots to troubleshooting and restarts in front of guests, lol

Yeah, I know, I’ve dabbled with Linux on and off for nearly a decade at this point, hehe. It’s just annoying when I just want things to work for a fun little post-thanksgiving match with the younger generation. It’s a bummer when it turns to troubleshooting for 15 minutes while everyone sits there. I really wish Linux was a bit more…er…professional, in that regard. Some stuff still feels a bit homemade even on first-party devices all these years later.

I just want them to focus on the basics right now, like bluetooth Xbox controllers. VKB flight sticks eventually, haha.

I just wish Valve spent a bit more time squashing bugs. I’m on my third deck after the first one had a dead screen and the second one bricked itself through a mandatory update. The third one is better, but even tonight on stock software, the deck refused to play nice with two Xbox One controllers and a Switch Pro controller during 4 player games of Towerfall. Great game, just wish we didn’t spend so much time with controllers disconnecting, menus freezing onto the screen, and pairing issues. It’s so close in some regards to contemporary platforms. But it’s so frustrating whenever I need it to work in party settings, and it falls flat on its face where my windows laptop just…doesn’t. :/

They are all on the bottom, the rubber feet/stripping on mine started coming off, found it by mistake. One has a sticker, but those don’t really hold up to void warranties anyways. Plus, I’m just gonna super glue the rubber feet back on after, hahah. I just tucked the screws and the chassis in the back of a closet for now. No tabs or anything to break when uninstalling it, either!

Edit: yeah, all in one! Mine is one of those modem / wifi combos. I set it to bridge mode so I could use my own router, and the thing still overheated even though it was just acting as a modem, smh. Annoying how bad it is. Luckily, shucking it will clear up 9/10 problems. Put some tape over the LED if you sleep in the same room as it, it’s very bright when exposed.

It likes to drop me from the middle of games when my same unit overheats :)

Fuck Comcast and fuck the “Made with ❤️ in Philadelphia” team that designed this complete POS. It has a built in cooling fan (lmao) and still overheats! It’s a mostly empty modem that is almost the size of a shoebox, lol. It gets so hot that the adhesive on the bottom starts coming off.

Hey! You have the same shitty AIO that Comcast sent me! It overheated and tries to melt itself down all the time. Luckily it gets so hot that the adhesive melted and the screws were easily visible. I just took the chassis off and it mostly doesn’t overheat anymore.

Crazy, the thing is basically hollow and was right next to the window and would still overheat. The bottom doesn’t allow for any air intake so it sufffocates. Also it’s 80% plastic because they couldn’t be assed to add aluminum heatsinks.

I wouldn’t hold your breath. So far, Valve has only released like, one generation of all of their hardware. But their hardware is pretty decent.

God, back in uni with free electricity and internet in the dorms, we managed to seed over a terabyte of data before IT got suspicious and turned off that port. Then we seeded over slower wifi until they turned the port back on next semester, haha. Good times.

That was where we learned that the pirated copies of stuff were easier to find, higher quality, and worked on hardware that websites declared “too old” to stream their content. It all started when we had a bunch of people over to watch a movie, and Amazon refused to play it on older hardware. It instantly converted half a dozen people to piracy, lol.
