I got a Dawarich instance running yesterday, so far it is pretty good. Getting it running over SSL was an absolute nightmare but now that it’s working the tracking is pretty powerful.

Brilliant, love these options. I think Dawarich looks fun, and really powerful data gathering that is mapped to places and summarized, which is very cool
So many good options! Ya’ll are the best
Not liquid enough.
I use Feedly, it has a nice iOS client too. It has some nice integrations for saving articles for later reading
That’s entirely up to us!
I’m thinking about this also. I felt the same about WF. I don’t want to invest energy in medium or another commercial enterprise that will just wipe my content someday.
I’m starting to think the answer is to throw away the idea of a blog as its own entity. Post your content in the appropriate community in the fediverse, and self host communities you can’t find or trust. Decentralize your blog content as much as possible.
Thanks! It’s a real thing I started IRL in the before-times, in the spirit of 18th century thinkers. (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunar_Society_of_Birmingham ) It’s the ideal I have for Lemmy so it made sense to run my instance using that name.
Couple new interesting ones in there thanks!
Agreed. Reddit is dead to me. This community is the primary.
In Bluetooth mode yes.
Wow. Do you live in a bank vault? That’s a serious door!
Maybe just a spare key in a hidden lockbox outside?
You could also look at these.
With the WiFi add on it’s HA compatible.
Tailscale plugin for HA works flawlessly for me.
Nothing outside the LAN. Just Tailscale installed on my Synology NAS, on HomeAssistant and on all my machines.
Rachio is supposed to have a local API coming soon. The Smart Hose hardware is great quality and I’m happy with their app in the meantime. Waiting to see how they open the integration before I commit heavily.
I know those kind of motorized vents are used in commercial HVAC. (Here’s a white paper on a stepper motor for one https://www.portescap.com/en/newsroom/whitepapers/2021/10/customized-and-reliable-stepper-motors-for-damper-applications )
A stepper would be the easiest thing because if you know it takes 10 steps to fully open from fully closed, you could keep track of how many steps you have sent each direction in Home Assistant and be able to display the current status.
If you want a knob on the wall that controls this, I think somewhere behind it you are still going to need a control system that translates wall switch inputs into stepping logic. Home Assistant would be able to do that easily.
I use these:
But something like either of these would be easy to print:
Wow this is exactly what I’ve been lacking. Thank you!
You could do regular manual blinds with solar powered Sunsa motorized wands.

I’ve had mine for 5 years now they work great with HA (once you get past the setup)
