Laptop gamers are having LAN parties every single day.
Even though I have multiple desktops, I couldn’t live without the flexibility of gaming wherever I want. It becomes so much more social if the person you are playing with sits next to you.
But good on you that you discovered the wonderfulness that is LAN. (yeah I know it is online, you get what I am saying)

It all depends on how safe you want your data to be.
Second Hard drives should be fine with enough redundancy.
I’d rather run 2 secondhand drives in Raid 1 than a single new drive.

The difference is that we own the hardware. We can treat it as bad/good as we wants and we only have ourselves to blame if things go wrong. It also costs exactly the same whether we use it for 1 month or 100 years.

Because if your company tells you you should use this software, you do not get a say in what software you use.
So it is either this, or nothing.

It is the same reason why tons of airports still run on Windows XP.
They already have documented every single issue that could even happen and their solution. Having a new OS would mean new problems that won’t be solved in less than 5 minutes. Which at an airport could mean lives are at stake.

Almost all commercial software are advertising their manufacturers other stuff. Ever installed a graphics card driver? How many ads does that show for games and software that can run on the card? Steam also pushes sales by pop-up advertisements.
Google has been fined multiple times because they went much further than just advertising their own stuff.
Can you disable ads on an ad platform with a single setting? Didn’t think so.
So no, Windows 11 is not an ad platform, not even close.
