QBitTorrent has a search built in. You have to add scripts for each torrent host, but once you add a bunch it makes it very easy to just search through that and find what you want. Finding a free stream you have to go through a bunch of shady sites trying to find one that works and is half decent quality.

I’ve used both. I prefer Lutris. It gives you more control more easily. Usually you don’t need this control, but when you do it’s there.

Yes, they were saying that as a good thing. If it were run through an emulator it likely would be done on the CPU and not use your GPU. Wine/Proton will use it properly.

Maybe Linamp, Lamp, or Gamp would be better? Kamp for a KDE version if the name isn’t already used.

I would bet on the same hand grip bits and a similar set of back buttons. The touch pads will be revamped and it’ll probably force the shape to change a lot.

I think the controllers sold relatively well though. Just not Steam Deck well. I know a good number of people who own at least one.

Like you said, these are Steam Deck prototypes, not the controller. They made a cheap controller with the same potential profile of the Deck without the screen because it’s cheaper. It was to iterate on the Deck quickly and cheaply. They’d never release a controller like that. They do the same thing for all their products.

They already tried a ton of designs for the Steam Controller to figure out the ergonomics of that. They’ll likely iterate some more with Version 2, but it’s likely to follow the controller design, not the deck design. It has very different considerations since it doesn’t need to contain a screen.

All of your comment is true, although it’s ignoring the fairly sizable pre-built market. You don’t have to do it yourself, although I would say people should so they can diagnose issues themselves.

Pre-built sellers just need to offer SteamOS, or other Linux distributions, as an option at checkout instead of Windows.

So a Linux computer that looks like a console? I can see how it’d sell, but it’s already available to anyone who isn’t oblivious. You can even install the SteamOS if you want that particular flavor of Arch.

Yeah, I don’t know why they’d use that image. It’s so lazy and uncreative. That’s not what it’ll look like. They literally just cut the edges of the Deck and shoved them together. I’ve seen better concepts of how it’ll look.

As an owner of a Steam Controller, it’s actually pretty nice. It’s probably the most ergonomic controller out there, though for functionality it hits a different niche than the typical controllers you find everywhere. Its better for some games, particularly ones designed for mouse, but worse for others. I’d bet on the Steam Controller 2 being very ergonomic and adding sticks, as well as the track pads, to be quite possibly the best controller available for every game (excluding keyboard and mouse obviously).

I’m currently listening to the Children of Dune audio book. That alone is 16h. I think Messiah was around 8h and Dune was around 12h. Basically, 12h is nothing.

It turns out the answer to these types of questions is always Dwarf Fortress. Even if it’s “travel back in time” style, with only access to stuff of the time, it’s still Dwarf Fortress, though much more limited and janky, and probably 2D depending on when you drop in.

Steam Deck is just a Linux computer, but it runs on any computer running Linux, Windows, or apparently Android, with capable hardware. It looks like it isn’t ready for Mac yet, though Ryujinx supposedly is.

It doesn’t run on a rooted Switch as far as I’m aware, but I don’t see the point in that. There’s no need to emulate the hardware if you’re actually using the hardware.

For video files I always set it to download first and last parts of files first. You can watch a video fairly well with like 50% downloaded if the file has the first and last section, which contain the data about how the video is stored. It’ll have occasional glitches, but it mostly works. At 99% it’s effectively all there and you may not even notice that last 1%, let alone 0.1%.

I did the same thing as you until a few months ago. I had used Linux many years ago, but never fully switched, so I wasn’t too worried. Windows has been frustrating me for years now, and one day the search bar showed back up even though I’ve told it many times to not have it. At that point I decided I was done using an operating system that didn’t listen to me and I switched over. It’s been an amazing experience. There’s only one game that hasn’t worked for me so far. I don’t remember the name, but it was a beta for a BR style game, and it was only because the anti-cheat hadn’t been updated to accept Linux, not because it didn’t run.

I meant it more as the company. I’m fully aware the individuals don’t have any say. It’s still often an internal decision though, but made by the suits, not the people actually creating the thing.

Although it’s not very honorable for developers to intentially create a worse product for people who pay, just to try to prevent a small number of pirated copies to work (which likely won’t actually prevent anything).

I tried Commandos (released in 1998) the other day. It worked nearly flawlessly. I still needed to set my bottle (application for running wine/proton with presets) to run in an older version of Windows compatibility mode I think, but you need to do that in Windows probably too.

(You do need a fan patch to make it run at modern resolutions, but that’s not required, and it’s needed for windows too.)

We all know how it works. The problem is that’s the only way it works. With a car you can choose to rent. With modern things you “purchase” it, and it only works as long as they want. You do have some alternatives for some media, but for games that’s it. Even if you purchase a disk, the game only functions as long as they allow it.

If you buy a Lamborghini and they have the ability to later decide you don’t actually own it and take it away, that’s the equivalent. I don’t know why you brought up renting. Renting was never mentioned.
